Elon Musk Went Too Far
15 out of 23 monkeys got killed due to implanted microchips in their brain.
A laboratory, 23 monkeys and severed fingers. Elon Musk’s neuro-tech company was sued for killing most of the guinea pigs in three years in an attempt to implant a chip in their brains. This is intended for human use and human testing is expected to begin this year. There are 700 pages filed with the United States Department of Agriculture last Thursday that reveal a laboratory methodology that does not comply with the federal Animal Welfare Act. In particular, some pages speak of a monkey that was found with fingers of the upper limbs and lower amputated, it is not clear, the report reads, “whether it is the result of self-mutilation or of unspecified trauma”. As the New York Post reports, this animal was later euthanized. Other parts of the document refer to a female macaque specimen with electrodes implanted in the brain, which allegedly experienced symptoms such as vomiting and respiratory failure and collapsed from exhaustion in the following days. The report explains that the primate would later be subjected to an autopsy and this revealed that she had died from a brain hemorrhage. Cases similar to this and the first mentioned would have been repeated at least 16 times.
In 2017, Neuralink, a US company founded by Elon Musk, began experimenting with 23 specimens of monkeys, with the aim of developing a chip to be implanted in the brains of humans. In detail, the promise is to allow man-machine symbiosis. The primates were entrusted for three years to the University of California with which he collaborated until 2020, when the monkeys were transferred to Musk’s laboratories and Neuralink stopped working with the university.
According to the document drawn up by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, an NGO that defends animal rights in research, between 2017 and 2020 at least 16 of the 23 monkeys died and “all or almost all were subjected to extreme suffering“. A week after the complaint, Neuralink admitted that eight primates died or were euthanized during brain chip tests, but, as The Independent reports, denies having subjected the animals to “extreme suffering”. A page recently appeared on the company’s website where you can apply for the position of “Clinical Trial Director”. This suggests that Musk is ready to begin human testing. Now, is it really necessary doing these experiments at all? Why do we have to merge with machines? It seems like an inevitable path but in fact it’s not. People like Elon Musk are exalted persons that don’t know where and when to stop. They think they’re above every ethics, humanity and common sense. The suffering and death of these macaques is only a poor mean to satisfy the delusions of grandeur and omnipotence of the Neuralink founder. We’ve been monkeys not so long ago, never forget that.
