We’re Hypnotized And Sedated By Technology
We’re becoming spoiled children addicted to tech.
New technologies are pampering us, literally. If our pc or smartphone takes a little longer to open the web page we get angry, like in an instant. One hundred years ago, to get those informations a lot of work was necessary: like going to the library, look for the right book, and find the right page. Today, if we don’t have everything immediately we get mad, that’s how sick and dependent we are of technology. Think about a traffic jam, we get sick of that situation like few things, but imagine living in the 19th century and riding a horse to get somewhere, isn’t it crazy? The point that I’m trying to make is that tech, instead of making us better human beings, is doing harm to us, from a psychological perspective and a general sense of wholeness. We can keep improving our external life situation, but we continue to get worse on the internal aspect, the more important mental and emotional wellbeing. The implicit assumption that “technology will save our lives” makes me laugh so loud, and the saddest thing is that society as a whole believes and feeds this thought with the economical and political decisions taken by those in power. The truth is that “technology is ruining our life”, and by life I mean the control and the good functioning of our minds and our hearts. We need an inner technology, the outer one is overly saturated, and not so useful beyond a certain point.
